Joey Pixels - The Story
Every journey of a thousand mile often starts with a single step, have you ever wondered what that big step was for Joey Pixels? Here is the story, now grab your pop corn!
I have always chosen my phones based on camera abilities and excellent display qualities, but I have never really been privileged to use any of the hight end phones until I got my hands on the Google Pixel 6 Pro shortly after its release in 2022 - what a fantastic device it has proven to be.
Before now, the Zero series of the Infinix mobile was often my go-to choice back then. I had the Infinix Zero 2, a beautiful phone aesthetically, couldn’t ask for more from its camera capabilities for its time and price. But clearly, there are still some noticeable gaps between that phone and the flagships of its time like the Samsung and of course Apple, that was in 2018. I knew absolutely nothing about Google Pixels.
In 2022, my situation improved, I moved to the Uk as a Mental Health Nurse to further widen my horizon. With my welcome package as an overseas nurse comes an attractive sum which meant that I could afford any of the high end phones of my choice. Finally, money is the problem, just a problem of choice, sounds like a good problem to have. But there’s still a challenge of making a good choice. However, my criteria for choosing a mobile phone haven’t changed. do you still recall - excellent camera and display.
So I needed to make my research. Guess where I went! Of course it has to be google-then, from there I was directed to the second largest search engine-Yeah, you answered right- Youtube. Then I came across the tech guru, he is pretty much an authority when it comes to tech reviews and recommendations. Interestingly, I saw this video about a Blind Test for best phones when it comes to taking pictures. As watched the video, I was waiting keenly to see how the comparisons turn out. That was where the match was made! A bond that would eventually lead to the birth of a brand- The JOEY PIXELS Photography.
I just could not go wrong with my shots! You wouldn’t be wrong to say the phone is a point and shoot - never been disappointed. Although primarily chosen for it camera features-the ability to remove unwanted objects from the background and all that. The phone has also proven its worth its status in other areas such as durability, toughness, not to mention the sleek design, mine came in the signature cloudy white colour.
Oh I almost forgot my meeting with Adwoa, a **** Ghanian lady whom I met at the airport. She spoke so fondly of the phone and that must have sparked my interest somehow.
And you can say that I have got some really good friends. On a Sunday, one of my friends called me aside after worship to seriously speak to me about my photos. On occasions, he often hand me his phone to take photos of him on occassions. In his own words, he said “Joseph, have you really paid attention to the way you take your pictures?”. I was not exactly sure what he was getting at at first. In the end his words were aimed at helping me appreciate my craft, and to see the endless possibilities of what lies in my hands. He thinks one of my strength Is the angles I take pictures from. Little did he know that I already got myself a camera to take along anytime I go for a walk with my wife. The thing is, my wife enjoys walking, I really don’t, but I really wish to share some quality time with her so I agreed to go for a walk only on the condition that she allows me get a camera from our savings, so I got myself a beginner friendly camera, the Canon R10.
I guess that how was how it all started. Fuelled by words of advice, I aimed at improving my craft and go pro at some point. Therefore, I’m not mistaken to say that my photography is inspired by the Google Pixel. Even in the age of high end camera, my phone is still able to capture amazing clips 3 years after its launch, my google pixel still counts , hence the tagline, “every pixel counts”.
The Rise from Depression: Ever got to that stage in your life where you question your own existence. You think you know the meaning of life but the life you think you know is forcing you to quit. Genuinely, I hit the rock bottom and this pain wouldn’t just go away. But why didn’t I quit, yes I love my life, but that love wasn’t strong enough to hold me back, but you know what did, the thought of my mum and sister. I survived that night is so much tears than a bucket could hold. yes I stopped, but something was still missing, I’m still not happy because my pain is still there. A call from a friend and a visit to the GP was quite life changing. I got a phone call from my colleague asking me about my photography, I said to her, not at this time I haven’t got the flair, moreover, what would my colleagues think of me? I’ve got the time for photography but not my work. Her response wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be, but it was what I need. My GP said to me, “you’re dressed in all black” …”do you have a hobby” and that was the moment of truth. I ordered more gadgets, started my YouTube talking about those items.
